Review: Forever Home

Forever Home (Sawtooth Shifters #1) by Kristen Strassel

BBW Paranormal Shifter Romance Shadow Channing is in chains. Pack rivalries have imprisoned his family beside their enemies. They're forced to fight for survival each month in a dog fighting ring. Shadow assures his brothers they'll escape, but to do so they must either team up with the rival pack that led them to their capture, or fight to the death for their freedom in front of a cheering crowd. Trina is in recovery. When rumors of dog fights start swirling around town, the owner of Forever Home Animal Shelter is determined to put a stop to them and bring the dogs to safety. Even when they turn out to be wolves. Trina knows that everyone deserves a second chance at life, especially after a car accident ripped hers away from her. Shadow will do anything to repay Trina for saving his life, but soon he realizes he's not the only one who needs saving.

This was a really short read. I got it for free on Amazon. I liked the concept of the wolves trapped by one of their own and force to participate in fights and the girls in the shelter helping them get free. The beginng was a bit slow but interesting. However, as soon as Trina discovers that the dogs/wolf she recues are no ordinary animals things go down hill.

Trina is an alcoholic and her problems are never treated in the book. The author makes sure the reader knows this but to what point? Shadow doesn't help at all with that nor we see some kind of recovery. She accepts the fact that the animal that has been living with her is now a man (a hot one at that) too soon and jumps into bed... and then They goo to get the other wolves and Trina's friend have the same reaction.

I would have love if this had more background. More about this wolves packs stories how they ended up like that. More about Trina and the girls. More time to see the characters develop a bond, because the few days spent with a dog aren't enough for me.

This is a short novella if you are looking for a bit of shifter action but for me it had a lot more potencial than this.

About the author

Kristen shares a birthday with Steven Tyler and Diana Ross. She spends each day striving to be half as fabulous as they are. She’s worn many hats, none as flattering as her cowboy hat: banker, retail manager, fledgling web designer, world’s worst cocktail waitress, panty slinger, now makeup artist and author. She loves sunshine, live music, the middle of nowhere, and finding new things to put in her house.
