Review: The Possibility of Us by Lisa Burstein

The Possibility of Us by Lisa Burstein
Published: July 1st, 2014
Publisher: Embrace (Entangled)

One weekend together could change everything…
When her friend called to tell her about the funeral, Cassie wanted to say no. She had enough to handle with her own hollow existence. But she knew she should pay her respects to her old camp counselor…as long as her ex, Ben, wouldn’t be there.
Except Ben is there. Still gorgeous, still angry, and still able to penetrate her defenses with one intense stare. All the reasons they left each other in a flurry of heartache start to fall away over one long, snowy weekend.
But tough Cassie can’t truly open up to Ben when she knows confessing her secrets will leave her raw, defenseless. And the possibility of forever might not be enough to gamble on all the impossibilities of now.

The Possibility of Us is the continuation of Dear Cassie (read our review here) however, according to goodreads reviews you can read it as a stand alone. It don't recomed it though, seeing how far Cassie and Ben have come and even some of my fav secondary characters makes this book even better.

While Dear Cassie ended in a happy place, The Possibility of Us starts off in a really bad one. We learn that our beloved character didn't get their HEA and so they now are facing not only their problems that took them to boot camp in the first place but the heartache and the knowledge that being together isn't as easy as they hoped.

While is a pretty short read, this book brings back all the raw, deep feeling Dear Cassie did. Cassie still uses her favorite F word in every way possible, and it's a lot of ways. I loved how the characters remain true to themselves and they grow along the story in more ways they did in book 1.
While at first two days to get back together and make everything ok might seem little, once these two get their lifes in order in their heads things easily fall into place.
I love Cassie and Ben and I also wanted to punch them several times during this book, because they are both so stubborn at times. I did like what Cassie did, it was about time!

The secondary characters are great as always, they help keep the story moving and light at times. Ben's brother, Drew, turns out to be an kinda good guy, even with what we already knew about him. And Laura, Cassie's friend from boot camp, is back! And in a way I didn't imagine. I was really happy to see her, not only back but as  a stronger girl. (here is hoping for Laura and Drew story :))

Lisa handled the feelings, the problems and the maturing of the characters in an amazing way. I really loved the book. It sets itself apart from other NA books were the sexual aspect of it is more about the tension and whether the girl is ready, The Possibility of Us makes it about learning to accept the past, to accept that they want to be each other even though it might be hard at times and that is the hard times what will make them stronger.
I'll stop now, but the ending is perfect!
