Christina McKnight's Bound By the Christmastide Moon

Silas Anson has spent his life dealing with other people’s mistakes. Now, as the Earl of Lichfield, he has a plan that will protect his siblings, and give him a chance at a normal life. His arranged marriage to Mallory Hughes should be perfect—except for one thing: she sees visions of the future. When a man determined to free himself from the shackles of the past marries a woman with precognition, happiness in the present may be just a kiss under the Christmastide moon away.

Ava Stone's Once Upon a Midnight Clear

Only a duke will do for Lady Ivy Dallimore. If her unhappily married sisters have taught her anything, it’s that love is fleeting but a title lasts forever, which is all well and good in theory until she finds herself falling for the scandalous third son of a marquess who is bound and determined to make his fortune in trade! Lord Michael Beck courts scandal, living life to the fullest and dabbling in games of chance. Unfortunately, he’s neither heir nor spare to his father’s title, and the time has come to enter a profession. Michael is no soldier, and he certainly isn’t cut out for the cloth, so he embarks on the most scandalous and risky venture of his life. He will need capital, however, and collecting a number of outstanding gambling debts at a Christmas Eve wedding at Castle Keyvnor seems like the perfect place to start, at least until he stumbles across the lady of his dreams. But what are the odds the practiced gambler can win the girl without losing everything he's worked for?

Michelle Willingham's The Sweetest Christmas

Lady Marjorie despises the idea of marriage. After being engaged to a man who tried to command every aspect of her life, from what she wore to what she ate, she refuses to consider matrimony again. Though she isn’t at all opposed to playing matchmaker for her cousin… Sir William Crandall is startled when Lady Marjorie believes he is a shy, withdrawn knight in need of a wife. He has nothing at all in common with her bluestocking cousin, but he is fascinated by the spirited Lady Marjorie. Despite her attempts at matchmaking, he intends to avoid marriage at all costs, after being abandoned at the altar. But a stolen kiss, a feast of gingerbread, and two unexpected friends find that there is magic in the Christmas holiday and a match that neither of them expected…

Review: Forever Home

Forever Home (Sawtooth Shifters #1) by Kristen Strassel
Published: September 3rd 2015
Publisher: Kindle Digital Publishing

BBW Paranormal Shifter Romance Shadow Channing is in chains. Pack rivalries have imprisoned his family beside their enemies. They're forced to fight for survival each month in a dog fighting ring. Shadow assures his brothers they'll escape, but to do so they must either team up with the rival pack that led them to their capture, or fight to the death for their freedom in front of a cheering crowd. Trina is in recovery. When rumors of dog fights start swirling around town, the owner of Forever Home Animal Shelter is determined to put a stop to them and bring the dogs to safety. Even when they turn out to be wolves. Trina knows that everyone deserves a second chance at life, especially after a car accident ripped hers away from her. Shadow will do anything to repay Trina for saving his life, but soon he realizes he's not the only one who needs saving.

This was a really short read. I got it for free on Amazon. I liked the concept of the wolves trapped by one of their own and force to participate in fights and the girls in the shelter helping them get free. The beginng was a bit slow but interesting. However, as soon as Trina discovers that the dogs/wolf she recues are no ordinary animals things go down hill.

Trina is an alcoholic and her problems are never treated in the book. The author makes sure the reader knows this but to what point? Shadow doesn't help at all with that nor we see some kind of recovery. She accepts the fact that the animal that has been living with her is now a man (a hot one at that) too soon and jumps into bed... and then They goo to get the other wolves and Trina's friend have the same reaction.

I would have love if this had more background. More about this wolves packs stories how they ended up like that. More about Trina and the girls. More time to see the characters develop a bond, because the few days spent with a dog aren't enough for me.

This is a short novella if you are looking for a bit of shifter action but for me it had a lot more potencial than this.

Review: Addiction

Addiction (Adiction Duet #1) by Vivian Wood
Published: September 14th 2017
Publisher: KDP

It started innocently enough. Beautiful Harper gave Sean those eyes… those eyes that meant, yes, take me. But Harper didn’t know Sean’s secrets… She didn’t know that he liked it rough. More than rough. He liked to dominate. To punish. To degrade. It was the only way that the black hole in his soul wouldn’t swallow him up. He would push her a little too far, and she would run. They all ran, eventually. But that’s not what happened... when he put his hands around her throat and squeezed, Harper moaned. When he told her to stay away, she didn’t listen, misbehaving until she got spanked. When he took out the handcuffs, there was excitement in her eyes, mixed with a little fear. The doe-eyed redhead liked it. More than that, she wanted it. She said so, time and again. That’s the thing about sexy strangers, though… you never know what they’re hiding. And Harper is carrying a burden so heavy that even Sean’s secrets pale in comparison

I was not aware this wasn't a stand alone. I'm now aware that is says so on the cover but I read the blirb when I got the ARC and didn't pay attention to that! Besides, The tattoos distracted me a little...
The ending shocked me and I'm having some serious withdrawls from it.

When I started this, I thought this would be another Fifty Shades type of story, and I'm so glad to say I was so wrong!

Sean is the black sheep of his family. An Alcoholic covered in tattoos doesn't really fit in with the trustfund / CEO men in his family.
We meet Sean briefly in His to Keep, and personally I didn't even pay attention to him, he was a real pain. But reading Addiction you see this whole other side of him. The guilt he carries and his longing to have a relationship with his brother Connor. And also how much he struggles with himself, not just the fact that he's an alcoholic but the fact that he's sure no one can love him because of what he likes, and what he likes is BDSM.

Harper is a model in L.A. She's struggled her whole life with the demands of being perfect, skinny and young in a vicious industry. Harper is such an interesting character to read, she's full of life, you know she's living this perfect life but when the lights go out and you see her, the reality of what she goes through, it's scary. To see her hurt herself with such a rationality.

Vivian Wood treats both problems with realism and makes it so the reader can feel it. The good, the bad and the ugly of each addiction this characters have. I was enthralled with their lives from the beginning. The writer makes you care for them.

When Harper and Sean meet sparks fly and their personalities click. One needs to have absolute control and the other needs order, someone who makes the decisions so she can rationalized that is ok.

At some point I thought this relationship was toxic, not because they were hurting each other, but because they were looking for ways to scape their realities and replace one habit for another. But you can also see their feelings growing and how much they care for the other. Sean totally stole the show for me, and he's so much more than those little glimpses we saw before.

I can't wait to see what happens to them now. And while I hate the cliffhanger, the author did an amazing job at taking the reader in this addictive journey only to leave them hanging like that, craving for the next fix.

Review: Trying Sophie

Trying Sophie (Dublin Rugby #1) by Rebecca Norinne
Published: April 2017
Publisher: Amazon Digital Service

Sex and rugby are the only things I care about. I play hard and f*ck even harder. Until my first love waltzes back into my life and I’m given a second chance to right the wrongs of my past. She doesn’t want to forgive me, but I’ll use everything at my disposal to make her see I’ve changed. That I can be the man she wants me to be. I’ve never pursued a woman the way I chase down opponents on the field, but this time I won’t back down. I won’t let her run away again. Sophie was my first love. I'm going to be her last.

From enemies to lovers and from an outsider to a part of the community, Trying Sophie is gonna make you wish you were in a little town on Ireland with a hot rugby player of your own. Sophie Davenport hates Ireland. When her parents divorced she was send there to live with her grandparents and the whole experience is something she wishes she could forget. Missing her home and bullied by her classmates, she couldn't wait to leave it all behind and the boy who tortured her dayly out of her head. Now a woman, Sophie goes back to take care of her grandfather. Declan was and always will be a wild boy. When he was younger he caused trouble in town and now that he is a professional rugby player he loves spending time with the ladies. But he's had a crush on Sophie since they were kids and now that she's coming back he can't waste the opportunity. I really enjoyed reading how Sophie and Declan got to know each other. Some parts felt more dragged on than others but in general the book keeps a nice pace. Sophie has some obvious hangups about giving Declan a choice but he's determined to make her see he's changed.

What really bothered me was how easily every adult there thought that Declan was being a cute boy with a crush when it was obvious Sophie was hurting at the time, and how easily they all expected her to just give in when the reality was they didn't know each other.

The book is told by dual POV and let you into the heads of both characters without trying to guessand read through the eyes of the main character.

Rebecca Norinne writes a good sporst romance, managing to keep the sports part true to their nature. The romance was slow at some points, with moments I felt like could be avoided or changed but all in all, it was a good read.
